2022 MIPJUNIOR World Premiere TV Screening

PHOENIX RISE

Presented by Sinking Ship Entertainment

Channelling the spirit of the classic 80s film The Breakfast Club, Phoenix Rise follows six teenagers ostracized because of their backgrounds and reputation. Previously excluded from mainstream education, just one thing unites them - they’re all outsiders. But as they embark on their first day at a new school, they’re told they are on their final warning. They must prove themselves before the school decides their fate. Quickly realising they need to stick together, they find themselves forming a unique club of their own in a disused boiler room. At first, these wildly different characters seem to have nothing in common. Until they realise they share a unique trait: an indomitable will to survive. And maybe even thrive. For them school becomes a hopeful place, a chance to finally right the wrongs of the past as they navigate and, ultimately, find their place in the world. This is the story of six diverse and unlikely allies who, over the course of the first series, form a unique family unit as they battle to conquer demons both inside and outside the classroom.

Creative India: Forging a Global Destiny, Indian powerhouses, IP, Animation & VFX

Indian animation and visual FX are on a roll. Service work for domestic kids channels and for Hollywood and European clients has for long been a staple of Indian studios. And that work continues even as some of them are working hard on creating globally relevant original IPs and series. Meanwhile, broadcasters and OTTs continue to acquire animation content locally and globally.

The Indian government too - under the information and broadcasting ministry - has put in place measures to encourage international biggies to set up base in India as well kick start co-productions and collaborations between India and international studios.

A panel discussion between various stakeholders from industry and government gives you an insight into how India has established itself in the business of creation and creativity, what kids content buyers are looking for, how much easier co-productions have become now and how the country is working on building and fine tuning its creative muscle to make a further global impact in animation and VFX.
